Roy Hodgson's side recovered from losing the first leg 3-1 and conceding an early goal in the second leg at Craven Cottage to secure a memorable 5-4 aggregate win over the Italian giants.
They were drawn to face Bundesliga champions Wolfsburg in the last eight, with the first leg at home and a potential semi-final against either Hamburg or Standard Liege to follow.
In the other quarter-finals, Liverpool take on Portuguese side Benfica with the second leg at Anfield.
The winner of that tie will face the winner of the all-Spanish tie between Valencia and Atletico Madrid.
Liverpool lost the first leg 1-0 to Lille in the previous round but goals from Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres (two) at Anfield kept their hopes of silverware this season alive.
